How to Memorize Surah Yaseen in 30 Days

How to Memorize Surah Yaseen in 30 Days
Memorize Surah Yaseen in 30 days with a day-by-day plan split by theme, the tricky similar verses to watch, and a free planner for your own pace.

You can memorize Surah Yaseen in 30 days by learning about 3 to 4 ayat a day for 24 days and using the remaining 6 days only for revision. Yaseen is the 36th surah, with 83 ayat spread over roughly five and a half pages of the standard Madani mushaf (pages 440 to 445), so the daily load is around 3 to 4 lines. That fits into 30 to 40 minutes a day for most adults who already read fluently. If you want a teacher to check every ayah as you go, our online Quran memorization course builds exactly this kind of short-surah plan around your schedule.

Below is a complete 30-day plan, split by the surah’s natural themes, plus the similar verses and recitation details that trip up most students.

Key takeaways

  • Yaseen has 83 ayat across about 5.5 pages: roughly 3 to 4 ayat a day finishes it in 24 study days.
  • Memorize by theme blocks, not random lines; the meaning becomes your map.
  • Watch the similar verses, especially 36:10 and 36:20, which resemble passages in other surahs.
  • Recite the whole surah once a day in the final week to lock it in.

Before You Start: Three Things to Check

Can you read the pages fluently? If you stumble over words when reading, fix that first. Memorizing while decoding doubles the effort and plants mistakes. Read the whole surah aloud daily for three or four days before Day 1.

Have you chosen one mushaf and one reciter? Use the same printed page layout every time, because your visual memory of where each ayah sits is a powerful aid. Choose one reciter with a clear, moderate pace and listen to the day’s portion several times before memorizing.

Do you know what the surah is about? Read a trusted translation of the whole surah once. Knowing that ayah 20 is where the believing man arrives, or that ayah 33 begins the signs in creation, turns a wall of text into a story you can follow.

The Structure of Surah Yaseen

Yaseen is a Makki surah, and its themes move in clear blocks. Learn the blocks and you will rarely lose your place.

AyatThemeMemory anchor
1 to 12The Quran, the Messenger, those who refuse to listen“Ya-Seen, by the wise Quran”
13 to 32The people of the town, the messengers and the believing man“And set forth for them an example”
33 to 47Signs in creation: the dead earth, night, sun, moon, ships“And a sign for them is…” repeated three times
48 to 54Mockery of the Promise, the trumpet and the resurrection“When is this promise?”
55 to 68People of Paradise, the separation of the criminals, limbs that testify“The companions of Paradise today…”
69 to 83The Prophet is no poet, man’s creation, bones brought back to life“Be, and it is”

Your 30-Day Plan

The plan assumes about 30 to 40 minutes a day. Each new day starts by reciting everything from the previous days from memory.

  1. Days 1 to 4: Ayat 1 to 12. Three ayat a day. The opening ayat are short, which gives you an encouraging start.
  2. Day 5: Review. Recite ayat 1 to 12 three times without looking, ideally to someone who can follow along.
  3. Days 6 to 11: Ayat 13 to 32. Three to four ayat a day. Follow the story: the messengers, the threat from the townspeople, then the man who came running.
  4. Day 12: Review. Recite ayat 1 to 32 in one sitting.
  5. Days 13 to 16: Ayat 33 to 47. About four ayat a day. Notice the repeated opening “wa ayatun lahum” at ayat 33, 37 and 41.
  6. Days 17 to 18: Ayat 48 to 54. Three to four ayat a day.
  7. Day 19: Review. Recite the first half of the surah up to ayah 54, connecting each block.
  8. Days 20 to 23: Ayat 55 to 68. Three to four ayat a day.
  9. Days 24 to 27: Ayat 69 to 83. Three to four ayat a day, ending with the majestic closing about Allah’s command and sovereignty.
  10. Days 28 to 30: Full revision. Recite the entire surah once or twice a day, including once in salah if you can.

The count leaves a little breathing room. If you miss a day, use one of the review days to catch up rather than doubling your new portion.

The Similar Verses to Watch

Most mistakes in Yaseen come from passages that resemble other parts of the Quran. Mark these in your mushaf.

Ayah 10 and Al-Baqarah

“It is the same for them whether you warn them or do not warn them; they will not believe” (36:10) is almost word for word the same as Al-Baqarah 2:6. If you have memorized the beginning of Al-Baqarah, be ready for your tongue to jump there. In Yaseen, the phrase begins with “wa sawa’un ‘alayhim”; in Al-Baqarah it follows “inna alladhina kafaru.”

Ayah 20 and Al-Qasas

Both surahs describe a man coming from the farthest end of the city, running. The word order differs:

  • Yaseen 36:20: “wa ja’a min aqsa al-madinati rajulun yas’a” (the place comes first, then the man).
  • Al-Qasas 28:20: “wa ja’a rajulun min aqsa al-madinati yas’a” (the man comes first).

A simple trick: in Yaseen, the city comes first because the whole story is about the town (al-qaryah).

The three “signs” in ayat 33 to 41

“Wa ayatun lahum” opens ayah 33 (the dead earth), ayah 37 (the night) and ayah 41 (the ships). Memorize the subject of each as a sequence: earth, night, ships. Between them come the sun and moon (38 to 40), which follow naturally from the night.

Recitation Details Specific to Yaseen

In the narration of Hafs ‘an ‘Asim, a few details deserve attention from day one:

  • The opening letters. “Ya-Seen” is read as two letter names: “Ya” with a natural madd of 2 counts, and “Seen” with a necessary madd (madd lazim) of 6 counts.
  • No merging in the opening. In Hafs, the noon at the end of “Seen” is read clearly before “wal-Qur’an” (izhar), not merged into the waw.
  • The pause in ayah 52. Hafs makes a brief silent pause (sakt) without breathing at “min marqadina” before “hadha,” one of only four such pauses in his narration.

These are easy to miss when learning from audio alone, which is why a teacher’s ear matters. Our guide to memorizing a page quickly explains the listen, read and repeat cycle you can use for each day’s portion.

About the virtues of Yaseen. You may hear that Yaseen is “the heart of the Quran” or that it should be recited for the dying. Many hadith scholars graded these narrations as weak. The surah’s value does not depend on them: it is the speech of Allah, and every letter you recite carries reward, as the Prophet ﷺ taught in an authentic hadith (Sunan at-Tirmidhi).

Keeping Yaseen After Day 30

Memorizing in 30 days is the easy part. Keeping it for life takes a light, steady routine:

  • Weeks 5 to 8: recite the whole surah every day.
  • Months 3 to 6: recite it twice a week, and once a week after that.
  • Use it in salah. Split the surah across your night or sunnah prayers.
